First let me explain who I am …
I am lucky in that I teach part time at MiraCosta in the Media Arts & Technology dept. (MAT) What a wonderful place to work. I teach basic HTML web coding. Beginning web development. I have worked here part time since the summer of 2007.
I also am a partner in a full service graphic design business that I run with my husband. I have been a graphic artist for over 20 years. I wear a lot of hats in this business including art director and web developer. The combination of these two jobs led me to this:
I am working on a Masters in Educational Technology at SDSU. I am planning on graduating in Spring of 2012. I started in this masters because I wanted to become a better teacher plus I wanted to use my graphic design skill. I discovered there is an amazing arena that you can push edtech into. It is everywhere. Or it could be. Luckily for me too, they have allowed me to develop most of my school projects aimed toward my “real” work. Either teaching or towards teaching people about the craft brew industry.
Because that — craft brewing — is one of my other jobs. I am partner in new brewery, Aztec Brewing Company. I do social media, I created and now maintain the website and also have begun educating people about the craft beer industry and about developing their palate.
I am pleased to be here to help Lisa with this expanded P.O.T class. Education and technology surrounds us everywhere we go. It brings the world and people closer together. This class is a perfect example of that. We are all here to learn and share educational and technical tricks, tips and ideas. Discuss them, their good and bad points. Discover what works for us and what works for them. Because we are all different with different needs. There is such an overwhelming amount of technology swirling around us, that it is difficult to not only keep up, but to chose the new item that will work the best for us right now. Seeing how someone else uses it, can give us that aha — “why didn’t I think of that and I think I will borrow that concept” moment.
Alone we may only know so much, but collectively we have a wealth of information to share.
